PSD budget & RIF: The board unanimously authorized a reduction-in-force in February 2026 amid a projected $8–17M shortfall from declining enrollment. By March 2026, all teachers were placed on continuing contracts, avoiding layoffs. The district still faces up to $9M in additional state-driven cuts for FY2027.
Comprehensive Planning Committee: The Comprehensive Planning Committee is bringing recommended criteria to the full board in May 2026 for future enrollment and facility planning.
School closure stance (2024 context): During the 2024 school closure controversy — in which Duffy ultimately voted to halt plans unanimously with the full board — he stated: "I didn't seek this seat to close schools that house students of color and marginalized students. We can do better than that. That doesn't reflect my values, and it doesn't reflect our community values."

School closure criteria vote: Duffy was one of three board members (with Ziegler and Baise) who participated in the May 12 Comprehensive Planning Committee session to vet the recommended closure/consolidation criteria. RIF discontinued — ~250 roles still impacted: PSD formally discontinued its Reduction in Force process; HR and principals found placements for all continuing-contract teachers. However, ~250 roles will still be affected by budget reductions (reassignments, eliminations, or reduced hours). Duffy's past concern about closures disproportionately affecting students of color may extend to advocating for equitable budget-cut distribution.
Next meeting: June 23 — likely budget adoption.

Duffy resigned — District F seat is vacant. Resignation effective July 1, 2026. No reason given in the district's announcement. Caught on this run; missed in prior updates.
Replacement process: PSD announced the vacancy July 20 and took applications through 4:30 PM Aug 3, 2026 (letter of interest + Notice of Intent to Apply for Vacancy + notarized Candidate Affidavit, delivered in person to Autumn Aspen, General Counsel, 2407 Laporte Ave.). The six remaining directors will interview applicants before appointing. The appointee serves the remainder of the term, through the November 2027 biennial school election.
Status: No appointment reported as of today. The Aug 11 board meeting is the first since the application window closed, but its agenda hasn't posted, so whether interviews or the appointment vote land there is unconfirmed.
District F covers the southeast region of the district — not 80521. District G (Zamora) is the 80521 seat.
PSD's "Meet the Board" and "School Board Directors" pages still list Duffy as the sitting District F director; they're stale.

Seat filled — succession closed. PSD's Meet the Board page now lists Dr. Ozlem Gurkan as Director, District F, term 2026–2027. Duffy is off the roster. No district news post, press release, or coverage announcing the appointment; the roster change is the only public record so far, and Gurkan's board email is still listed as "TBD." Timing points to the Aug 11 board meeting as the appointment vote, but that's inference, not confirmed.
